Say goodbye to stubborn fat! CoolSculpting® is a revolutionary non-surgical treatment that uses freezing technology to destroy fat cells in all the right places. No more muffin tops. No more love handles. The results can be seen within three weeks of treatments, and the treatment continues to work from up to 6 months. Best of all, it’s FDA-approved.

You may want to consider CoolScultping if you have recently lost a lot of weight and still have some areas of stubborn fat. CoolScultping can be done on many parts of the body – hips, waist, even your chin!

General Procedure

A gel pad and applicator are used to freeze the fat you want to get rid of. The device uses a vacuum to grab the bulge and deliver controlled cooling to the fat, which can be a little uncomfortable at first. Within 5 to 10 minutes, the area will become numb and you can relax for the rest of the time. For most people, the entire treatment takes about an hour. You can bring a book to read.

You may notice some redness, soreness, or minor bruising on your body after treatment. It is not unusual to have tingling or numbness in the treated area as well. Rest assured, these signs will go away completely on their own within a few hours. Your body will continue flushing fat cells for 4 to 6 months, so your results will become gradually noticeable starting a few weeks after treatment.

Kybella® is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment for getting rid of a double chin. If you have excess fat below the chin (submental fullness), this injection destroys the fat cells in just a few sessions. This could dramatically improve your facial profile, making you look years younger and slimmer.

The active ingredient in Kybella, deoxycholic acid, is a synthetic version of a naturally occurring molecule that breaks down fat in the body. Fat cells are destroyed by Kybella, and the cells are no longer able to store or accumulate fat.

Reasons to consider Kybella:

  • You feel the condition makes you look older or heavier than you actually are.
  • You don’t want to have surgery.
  • You eat well and exercise, but submental fullness does not go away.

General Procedure

A series of injections are given directly under the chin. You will receive from 3 to 6 treatments, spaced at least a month apart. Each treatment session will include multiple injections to destroy the fat. Each session takes less than 30 minutes. The number of sessions you need will depend on the amount of fat that needs to be treated.

It is common to have some redness or even soreness in your chin after the procedure as a result of the injections. You may notice swelling, bruising, or even numbness. This is normal. If you have difficulty swallowing or facial muscle soreness, you should contact the doctor.

BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments use botulinum toxin to treat the visual signs of aging by reducing or removing wrinkles. This is a safe, effective way of treating aging skin without cosmetic surgery. Common areas to be treated include horizontal forehead furrows, vertical lines between the eyebrows, and crow's feet around the eyes.

At Black Hills Plastic Surgery, our BOTOX Cosmetic treatments provide amazing results without surgery. It is capable of producing phenomenal improvements in your appearance.

Reasons for considering BOTOX:

Women and men consider these quick, effective injections to treat:

  • Excessive facial wrinkles
  • Large wrinkles or furrows on the forehead
  • Small wrinkles or crow's feet around the eyes
  • Vertical frown lines between the eyebrows

Many of our patients in South Dakota, Western Nebraska, North Dakota, and Eastern Montana combine these treatments with other facial procedures, such as facelift and eyelid surgery, for a more complete facial rejuvenation.

General Procedure

Injections of BOTOX Cosmeticwork by altering the facial muscles beneath the skin that cause the wrinkles. Typically, only a small amount (1-2 cc's) of product is injected into the area of the wrinkle.

The treatment effectively blocks the impulses from the nerve to the facial muscles, thereby relaxing them. After the underlying facial muscles relax, skin begins to smooth out. Most patients see improvementfor approximately 3 to 6 months, after which you may choose to repeat the procedure.

Patients generally return to their normal activities immediately after the BOTOX Cosmetic procedure; however, following the post-procedure guidelines will dramatically reduce the length and intensity of the recovery period.

You should avoid engaging in heavy physical exercise, applying cosmetics, or laying down flat for a minimum of 4 hours after the injections. It is also advisable to avoid rubbing or massaging the injected area for at least 24 hours.

Facial Fillers

Injectable facial fillers provide a smoother, more youthful facial appearance without surgery and with minimal recovery time. Many women and men choose facial fillers to look younger at Black Hills Plastic Surgery in Rapid City, SD. Today, many non-surgical options are available, including soft tissue fillers and fat transfers.

Reasons to consider facial fillers:

  • Filling in facial wrinkles and folds
  • Achieving fuller, more sculpted lips
  • Restoring a youthful look to the face without plastic surgery

Some patients combine plastic surgery procedures of the face, such as facelift and eyelid surgery, with facial fillers for a more complete enhancement.

Soft Tissue Fillers

Soft tissue fillers are injectable products used to restore lost volume in the face. These products can be placed in the layers of the skin to reduce fine lines and wrinkles or deeper in the fatty tissues to fill out facial folds and plump up the lips.

Commonly treated areas of the face include crow's feet and laugh lines. "Out of the box" fillers available at Black Hills Plastic Surgery include Juvéderm® and Voluma.

Structural Fat Transfer

Filling of facial folds and plumping of the lips can also be accomplished by transplanting the body's own fat tissue into the face. This surgical procedure can take place under local anesthesia in our plastic surgery office and involves the removal of a small amount of fatty tissue from the abdomen or thigh by liposuction.

The fat is then purified and concentrated and placed into the smile lines and/or lips through tiny incisions near the corner of the mouth. The results of this procedure typically last up to 1 year and can be permanent in some cases.

Cosmetic Laser Treatments

Cosmetic laser treatments are used for several different types of skin conditions without the downtime and risks associated with surgery. Laser treatments can improve the appearance of wrinkles, stretch marks, rosacea, port wine stains, acne scarring, and skin discoloration from aging and sun damage.

Cosmetic laser treatments at Black Hills Plastic Surgery in Rapid City, SD can also be an effective non-surgical method of removing spots, lesions, and freckles.

Reasons to consider cosmetic laser treatments:

  • Remove unwanted hair
  • Reduce the appearance of spider veins
  • Treat brown spots and other skin discolorations

General Procedure

A medical laser is a device that delivers a small but precise amount of light energy. Light is delivered in a series of brief pulses where only targeted areas will absorb this energy, leaving the non-targeted areas untouched. Therefore, the surrounding skin remains unaffected.

The procedure promotes the growth of new, healthy-looking skin. Depending on the procedure and your skin's requirements, you may need more than one laser treatment.

Most cosmetic laser treatments do not require aftercare. Certain types of laser procedures to remove lines and wrinkles may require 1 to 2 weeks to heal. They are a safe and effective alternative to surgery and traditional cosmetic treatment methods.

Tattoo Removal

Tattoo removal is done with laser therapy. The results vary, but tattoo removal can lighten or completely remove unwanted tattoos. The energy from the laser beam is absorbed by the tattoo, causing the color to fade.

Black tattoos are the easiest to remove, but color tattoos are more challenging. Tattoo removal typically requires 4 to 6 treatment sessions. There can be mild discomfort during treatment, as the laser light pulsates against your skin.
